Grandparents' Liturgy
The church was full and so are our hearts! Thank you to our grandparents and special friends who travelled far and wide to be with us on Friday last week. Mrs Lines, Father Warren and the students led a beautiful Liturgy that celebrated the gift of grandparents and other important people in our lives.
Josh Arnold – New School Song
Last week, our students participated in song writing, recording and filming with Josh Arnold to produce our new school song ‘Look to the Stars.’ The final film is expected to be ready early next term with a planned unveiling at the St Mary’s Fete on Friday 21st October.
School Advisory Council (School Board) 2023
Parental Engagement and involvement actions work hand in hand for the best possible outcomes for a student’s academic performance. One cannot be fully effective without the other. We would like to open opportunities for Parental Engagement through the formation of a School Advisory Council (School Board) at St Mary’s School for 2023 and beyond. If you are interested in becoming a Council (Board) member, please email katrina.dunne@twb.catholic.edu.au by Friday 16th September to register your interest. Board members will include: Pastoral Leader, Principal, Teacher, 3 x Parent Members, Parish Member, Financial Advisor and P & F Member. School Advisory (Board) members freely and fully participate, are all equal, honour and abide by School Advisory Council decisions, are guided by loyalty and integrity, and observe confidentiality.
Farewell Ms Mac
This is Susan McInnes’ last week at St Mary’s for 2022. Ms Mac will relocate to Toowoomba this holiday break. We take this opportunity to thank Ms Mac for her wonderful work at St Mary’s over the past few years, especially with her tireless work with sport at school, district, regional and southwest levels. You have made HPE an enjoyable experience for many students at St Mary’s School and given your unconditional extra for our students to have access to wider sporting opportunities. We wish Ms Mac all the best!

Hi Families!
Last week we had parent / teacher conferences as an opportunity for families to get into classrooms and see what the students have been learning. If you haven’t met with your child’s teacher, and you would like to, please touch base with them!
I was so excited last fortnight to share with you all the wonderful ways in which families in our community are experiencing reading together. I hope you had a chance to have a go at a different strategy. Please feel free to share this experience with us at school!
In our family, our bedtime routine has just changed, again, as Lucy is now no longer feeding to go to sleep. Currently we all lay down together and read a couple of stories. I’m sure, in time, Lucy will come to cherish this bedtime routine and not look forward to ripping the pages out of the library books! It’s only been three days! I promise I will just breathe through these moments.
Over the break, I would like to seek out from our families, what you do at home to support your children with counting. If you have any fun ways that you incorporate developing counting at home, we would love to hear about it! If you email me (vanessa.alexander@twb.catholic.edu.au) your ideas, I will share your thoughts anonymously in our newsletter in Week 2 of Term 4. I can’t wait to share!
I wish you all a wonderful and safe holiday.
Vanessa Alexander

Learning Support News
It was fantastic to be on campus at St Mary’s last week for what was such a busy but wonderful week. It was fantastic to see so many grandparents and special people at school on Friday. The community really makes St Mary’s a place like no other! Last week, during my school visit, we had most of our Prep interviews for 2023. With such a huge amount of interest in Prep next year, it is delightful to see many younger siblings and new families wanting to join the St Mary’s School community. We look forward to seeing these children at the first Mini Mary’s early next term as they get a taste of Prep life at St. Mary’s.
As always if you have any questions or just want to chat about your child, please feel free to send me an email: belinda.phillips@twb.catholic.edu.au. My next school visit is Week 2 next term.
The Auslan sign for this edition is:
holidays
Your hands start flat in front of your chest, palms facing out. Both hands do 2 circles, each at the same time and finish back in front of your chest.
Happy holidays,

The Arts News
The Arts
What a massive term we have just had! Music has definitely been a favourite with many of our students. Our students have been working on performing, responding and even composing their own music. To extend our lessons in composition we have collaborated with Josh Arnold and Opera Queensland to work with our children on creating two school songs; ‘Look to the Stars’ and ‘Charleville’. If you missed the Opera Queensland gala evening, or the radio performance with Josh, do not stress, we will share our songs with you all next term. We have also shared our music with the Charleville Performing Arts Festival and on 4RR FM, but keep those eyes peeled for a music video coming out next term to share with the world!
We look forward to returning to the Arts Space next term when we will be exploring Media and Dance!
St Mary’s Choir
Our wonderful choir has grown in size this term, in fact, the week before CPAF our choir more than doubled in size! How wonderful! Our chorale performers were very excited to receive their Choir Badges and wear them with pride throughout the school and community. We have just started our new songs in preparation for next term and they sound beautiful! We look forward to sharing them with you all!
Prep News
Hip hip hooray! We have made it to week 10!
WOW this last two weeks has flown by.
We have had a lot of fun adventures in Prep where preps have had to learn a lot of songs. Last week Prep completed a prayer assembly about David and Goliath + Grandparents' liturgy + learning a new school song which the St Mary’s students created.
In science this term students have been learning about the weather and types of clothing they would need to wear depending on the weather. They completed their own learning by creating a weather report. It was such a delight to see their enthusiasm in each report.
Grandparents' day was a huge success, and it was so wonderful to see students enjoy spending time with their family members. We kicked off the activities with a dance break and preps were so intrigued to see if their family members could dance and show off their moves.
In HASS last week students created their family trees which are now on display if you would like to pop in and take a look. Students responded to a range of questions, and it was awesome to see their passion through this task.
Events coming up
Mega draw + final assembly for the term – Friday 16th September
CWA picnic in the park (11-12:30pm) – Friday 16th September
School holidays commence – Saturday 17th September
I can’t wait to see what term 4 has install for our learning and adventures.
I hope all families have a safe and happy holiday.
Thanks,
Imogen
Year 1 News
Hello Week 10!
Year One have had another fabulous fortnight, with lots of exciting events and even more to come! Thank you to all our special friends and family who visited our classroom last week for Grandparents' Day. Students loved showing you all around and reading some of our favourite books to you. Year One had time to reflect on all the amazing people in their life and in our St Mary’s Community. We are all extremely lucky to have lots of important and special people in our lives.
Year One has had a very successful term. We look forward to celebrating this success with an excursion to the COSMOS Centre on Tuesday. We will be consolidating our learning about the sky’s patterns by looking at the sun through the telescopes.
In math, we have been making predictions about capacity and measurement using informal units of measurement.
In English, we continue to look at facts and how we can use adjectives to make our facts sound more exciting and entertaining. Students have been practising and remembering several important things to help enhance their writing; neat handwriting, punctuation, sentence checklist, different sentence starters, starting on the margin and using their knowledge of phonics to help with spelling strategies - just to name a few.
Finally, a huge thank you for your support this term. I am extremely grateful to have such a supportive cohort of parents and carers. I hope you all have a safe holiday and look forward to seeing you all next term!
